How to Lose All the Weight you Want for Your Wedding, and Keep it Off Forever!

If there is anything worse than the panic of realizing that you need to start losing weight for your wedding, it’s the debilitating pain of failure when you gain it all back when the celebration and the honeymoon is over.

I know so many brides who focus on looking thin and perfect for just one day; they spend months in a constant state of anxiety employing crash diets and punishing workouts to lose weight.

Brides end up frazzled and depleted on their wedding day. And when the deadline has past, the weight comes back like a bat out of hell.

There have been so many nights when I have been huddled on my couch shaking with tears of dismay about how I could have possibly let myself gain the twenty pounds back that I lost. How could I have been so weak, so out of control, so reckless?

I thought I was doomed to be fat forever, that I didn’t deserve to be thin. I have never felt so hopeless.

Now I employ unique, cutting edge lifestyle strategies and nutrition concepts that led me to lose weight and have complete confidence that I will never feel so defeated again.

Through my company, the Breathtaking Bride I am helping brides lose weight for their wedding and ensure that they will never feel that unbearable pain of failure again.

I am so excited to share with you my some of my best strategies for losing weight for your big day and keeping it off forever.

GET RID OF THE DEADLINE

Deadlines create WAY too much stress. Stress creates discomfort in our minds and bodies. When we have discomfort, we search for ways for relief. And the cheapest and easiest relief is rich, salty, sugary foods.

Lose the deadline and shift your focus on how to feel good everyday. Not only will you avoid having an absolutely miserable engagement, but you will be creating habits you can carry with you long after the wedding.

- Exercise to relieve stress in the moment

- Eat fruits and veggies to give you sustained energy

- Stop eating when your hunger has subsided (not when you are full) to avoid feeling bloated and nauseous

MAKE HEALTHY FOOD TASTE GOOD

People have this idea that healthy food is bland and unsatisfying. This is complete BS. Eating flavorful healthy food is not only incredibly satisfying and pleasurable when you are eating it, but you will also feel amazing after you eat it too.

Try these tips to make healthy food taste amazing:

- Instead of going for diet foods (like low-fat frozen yogurt and 100 calorie snacks) eat real, organic whole foods, which naturally taste better and support weight loss.

- Add delicious condiments to your veggies like sesame oil, tahini, salsa or chutney.

- Don’t give up your favorite foods like burgers and fries. Instead of going to your favorite diner, make burgers at home with organic meat, a whole wheat English muffin, avocado and your favorite condiments. Try baked sweet potatoes (just pop sliced potato with olive oil in the over at 350 degrees for 30 minutes).

STOP WORRYING ABOUT HOW YOU WANT TO LOOK, AND START THINKING ABOUT HOW YOU WANT TO FEEL.

It is very easy to get caught up in how much you want your clavicles showing, or how tight you want your arms to be, but being so focused on form can actually prevent you from losing weight.

You must create change from the inside out. This starts with having a very clear understanding about how you want to feel in your body on your wedding day- not just how you want to look.

Sit or lay in a comfortable position and close your eyes. Picture yourself in your white dress just moments before you walk down the aisle.

Hold the feeling of being in your ideal body and let emotion pour over you.

Now invite others into your visualization. Picture your friends’ and families’ heads slowly turning to look at you. What do their faces look like? What you see in them should be a perfect reflection of how you feel.

Do this whenever you get a chance, and your body will naturally gravitate towards this state. All of the healthy habits you are creating will fall into place with far less friction.

DO EXERCISE YOU ENJOY

When you put your body through intense stress from grueling workouts it actually prohibits you from burning calories. The stress sends your body into “fight or flight” mode, flooding your system with the hormone “cortisol” – an evolutionary survival mechanism causing you to retain fat around your abdomen.

Working out should be all about creating happiness because being happy actually increases your metabolism! How many times have you gone on vacation, eaten a ton of rich foods, but actually lost weight? It happens to me all the time. Enjoying your workouts will raise your metabolism and keep stress levels low.

You will love your new outlook on exercise so much, you will want to continue working out long after you tie the knot!

- Try dance, either in an organized class or buy a DVD (one of my favorites is the Luscious Belly Dancing DVD)

- Pilates is a great way to tone and relax simultaneously

- Check out S Factor: A pole dancing class focused on empowering women. It is one of best and most fun workouts I have ever had

- Join a work-out group in a local park. It is a great way to get fresh air, avoid gym crowds and meet new people.

Your engagement should be one of the most exciting times in your life, embrace this amazing opportunity to build a lifestyle and create the breathtaking body that you have always dreamed of.

REAL Wedding: Dan & Amy - Sold Out Show -

Check out my friends Dan & Amy who tied the Knot this weekend. Their wedding, put on like a rock "show" was incredible with sweet music, AND concert ticket seating placecards!!!! The Groom, a musician played the electric guitar as the bride walked down the isle, and the groomsmen WERE the band! The Bride wore a simple ruched strapless gown that she customized herself. Using vintage lace from her mothers gown dyed black, she added a shoulder strap and bodice detailing. The bridesmaids rocked black dressed, printed tights, and studded accessories while the boys rocked out in skinny ties, suspenders and converse. The Bride, an Interior Design genius styled the reception with black and white 'beatlejuice' striped reception chairs, glowing cd candle holders, feathered centrepieces and to top it off a 'make it and take it home' candy station!!!!!!!!!

I cannot tell you how many gumballs I consumed yesterday, nor can I tell you how great it was to see the bride and groom laughing it up and rocking 80's dance moves on the dancefloor.

hope u all had a great weekend!

REAL Wedding: Sonia & Shawn

I am back... and I have brought you pics! This past month I (Ree) had the pleasure of marrying off one of my very best friends, Sonia. As one of her best buds, and a bridal enthusiast I was of course involved in every part of her wedding! In her culture there are many ceremonies and celebrations, rather than the well known "one day" BASH. Thus why I took this last month off blogging and why it will take me this month to post all the photos.

To start, these are some of my favourite shots I took from the day of The Nikka, which is their marriage ceremony. hope you love them as much as i do.

PS: is she not incredibly beautiful !!!!

Getting Dressed: Wedding Guest

One of the most common questions that I get asked is not from brides, but wedding guests. It's hard to determine the appropriate attire when attending a wedding.

The Sweetspot.ca has the perfect solution to help take the stress out of finding the perfect outfit. Tweak these 3 elegant looks to make them your own - Then grab a glass of champagne, look fabulous & enjoy the party.

Cocktail Party

A little more casual than a formal sit-down dinner, a cocktail party is the perfect opportunity to put together an outfit that’s fun and flirtatious. Start with a structured cocktail dress, and pair it with bright-coloured heels for a little personality (and to lengthen your legs). Chandelier earrings will call some attention to your neckline while a cocktail ring will glam up your hands. Complete the look with an elegant evening bag that complements the dress but doesn’t outdo it.

Formal Evening

A formal affair is an excuse to get glamorous. A stylish and appropriately sexy outfit should start with a floor-length, silky gown. Pair it with a cropped jacket (leather would work too) to keep you warm but still show off the dress, and strappy heels will give you the perfect amount of lift. Add an attention-grabbing bracelet and a small basic clutch to store all your essentials (but not take the focus off you).

Outdoor Wedding

An outdoor reception tends to have a more relaxed and informal feel. Go for a look that’s simple, yet sweet. A bright floral dress is casually elegant, and creates a colourful base. Add a pair of wedges (you don’t want a sharp heel sinking into the grass) and a clutch with a strap to keep your hands free. Sunglasses will make sure that you don’t have to squint during the ceremony, while a blazer will keep you warm should the temperature go down with the sun.

A (very) Creative Edge: Using your Menu to Personalize your Day

As a bride, you spend a lot of time thinking about ways to personalize their guest book, escort card table, floral, attire and stationery. However, one of the things that we like to encourage our clients, is to personalize the day with food. Food and wine are so tied to moments of celebration (the restaurant you went to when you got engaged, the wine you drank when you had your first date) and cultural ties that it’s a shame that for all of these years wedding food has gotten such a bad rap and, more often been the step child of all the other decisions that couples make when it comes to weddings.

Even if you are working in a venue that seems to offer pretty cookie-cutter cuisine, put some thought into some things that might be easy enough to add or incorporate into your day. Perhaps they can replicate a special bread your grandmother used to bake or try and replicate a dessert from your favorite restaurant. We’ve had restaurants work on making a dad’s jerk chicken recipe or a favorite family dessert. Don’t be afraid to ask.Filet Mignon And if you are working with an off-premise caterer, these are the kinds of questions they should be asking. Where do you like to eat? What is your background? What tastes do you love? Your menu is another way to express yourselves, and in some ways, it’s the most profound.. because it’s the one thing that everyone communally gathers around.

Beauty 411: Bronze & Glow...

I love a good tan against a white dress.

Today’s modern women are all too aware of the damage and dangers caused by the natural sun and tanning beds.

Fake tans have come a long way from the smelly, sticky and streaky lotions of the 80’s and 90’s and applied correctly by following guidelines and advice, there is no reason why you can’t show off those fabulous tanned shoulders, back, arms and legs while floating down the aisle on your wedding day.

With so many product choices you may have a hard time deciding which one is the best for you. Shop around and take personal recommendations and advice from others and above all don’t be heavy handed or you may just find yourself glowing as bright and colourful as the orange blossom in your wedding bouquet.

My self-tan secret weapon:

Somer360° by Kate Somerville

Kate Somerville Somer 360 Tanning Towelettes are a new self-tanning towelette that is easy and smell-free. I love the look of a tan but I usually don't have the time it takes to build up the gorgeous glow. With one Somer 360 Tanning Towelette, I've got it! Of all of the tanning towelettes I've used, this one gives the most natural tan color.

The Kate Somerville Somer 360 Tanning Towelettes are an 8 1/2 by 11 sheet that are very generously saturated with a paraben-free self tan formula. The only "smell" is a light, citrusy fragrance. There is enough product on the sheet to easily do face, neck and body. Like with any self-tanning product, exfoliating before application is a must. Once applied, the product dries in just a few minutes and the tan fully develops in 2 to 4 hours.

Apply the Kate Somerville Somer 360 Tanning Towelette in a circular motion. When you're done, to prevent an unnatural color line from forming on hands (or elbows, ankles, knees), lightly smooth lotion onto hands. I didn't experience streaks or uneven color, but it did take me a couple of tries to get the right "level" of color intensity. I found that the color lasts four to five days.

Kate Somerville Somer 360 Tanning Towelettes retail at $48 for 8 Towelettes and are available at Sephora
